View across the quarry: 4x4s spread around red water, with golden birch trees behind

The quarry.

13 acres of old sandstone quarry at Mouldsworth, Cheshire, full of natural terrain and custom-built obstacles.

What you'll drive

  • Axle twisters

Find out how far your suspension really goes.

  • Water troughs

In slowly, out the other side, grinning.

  • Tight routes through trees

Narrow, twisty and a good test of your line.

  • Steep ascents and descents

Some you might want to walk first.

  • Winching sections

    Not for the faint-hearted.

  • Gullies

Pick your wheel placement and take your time.

  • Shallow lakes

Red water, big splashes, best photos of the day.

  • Sandstone rocks

A reminder of the quarry this used to be.

Deep rutted track running downhill through green woodland

Gentle tracks too.

Not everything here is hard. There's plenty to enjoy on your first day out, and you don't need a heavily modified vehicle to do it.

Routes are often marked by difficulty, barrier tape keeps you out of the areas that aren't suitable, and our team are around all day if you're unsure.

Why we're here

Places to take a 4x4 were getting harder to find. Green lanes were closing, and people who loved driving had nowhere left to go. So in 2003 we opened the quarry, and families and friends have been coming here to get muddy ever since.
